Course Curriculum
Module 1: Introduction to Advocacy and Policy Change
  • Definition and importance of advocacy, understanding the policy-making process, types of advocacy
  • Policy analysis frameworks, advocacy models
  • This module introduces the core concepts of advocacy and the various forms it can take, from grassroots organizing to legislative lobbying. Participants will learn about the policy-making process and how to identify opportunities for influence.
Module 2: Strategic Planning for Advocacy
  • Setting objectives, target analysis, and strategy development
  • SWOT analysis, power mapping, Theory of Change
  • Participants will learn to develop strategic plans for advocacy campaigns, including setting clear objectives, identifying target audiences and decision-makers, and crafting a Theory of Change to guide their efforts.
Module 3: Building and Mobilizing Coalitions
  • Coalition-building, stakeholder engagement, and partnership management
  • Stakeholder mapping, alliance-building tools, partnership agreements
  • This module focuses on the importance of coalition-building and how to engage stakeholders effectively. Participants will explore methods for identifying potential allies, managing partnerships, and mobilizing support for their campaigns.
Module 4: Communication and Messaging
  • Crafting persuasive messages, media relations, and digital advocacy
  • Message framing, media kits, social media tools
  • Participants will learn to develop compelling messages and narratives that resonate with their target audiences. The module covers traditional media relations and modern digital advocacy techniques, including the use of social media and online platforms.

  • Lobbying tactics, meeting with policymakers, and grassroots advocacy
